Dataplace is making it easier and safer to share data

Dataplace helps you submit a request for data to any Australian Government agency. It helps define the arrangements to share data and allows you to track progress. Importantly, Dataplace can auto-generate a data sharing agreement, using a new, whole of government clause bank.

With the latest release on 28 April, we add two enhancements to Dataplace services:

• organisations that share an ABN will be able to onboard to Dataplace as separate entities, and
• increased reporting functionality.

Enhanced reporting

Data requestors and data custodians can export a report on Dataplace activities (e.g. requests and agreements) which will include a larger set of information about each data activity.

Open the My data projects tab, select export under the key word bar. An excel spreadsheet is generated with information about each of the agreements including lead custodian, data requirements, and type of agreement. The excel spreadsheet has been formatted for easy use in Power BI. See the help tab for more information.

For organisations that share an ABN

For organisations that share an ABN but are independent from the organisations they share an ABN with, such as statutory office holders, Dataplace now offers a way to onboard as a separate entity.

The organisation onboarding as a separate entity will only be able to see their own data requests, accreditation applications and data sharing agreements, and user details of their organisation. They will not be able to see any details about other organisations that share the same ABN.

To set up an organisation as a separate entity you will need to provide advice that your organisation, or head of organisation, has independent decision-making capability. The advice must be provided by the person who has the leadership role for data management and use in the organisation.

Coming soon

We are working with the Australian Government Solicitor to incorporate updates to Dataplace’s General clause bank (used to autogenerate a data sharing agreement under the General sharing pathway on Dataplace). Updates are expected to be published in June.

Also coming in June will be the ability to auto-generate a DATA Scheme data sharing agreement.
