VANguard, managed by the Australian Government's Department of Industry, Science, and Resources (DISR), provides a secure and convenient way to verify who you are and the organisation you represent on Dataplace. 

VANguard authenticates user credentials (e.g. kim.smith@agency.gov.au) and matches these credentials with your organisation without needing a username or password.

Most Australian Government agencies are already setup with VANguard for authentication across various government applications. If you are unsure if you organisation or agency is using VANguard, we suggest you contact your ICT services area.

To request VANguard for your organisation please email VANguard.Customer@industry.gov.au to request an Identity Provider form. You may need assistance from your IT team to complete it.

Signing in to Dataplace with VANguard

1. Select the sign in at the top of your screen
2. Select 'Continue with Government Identity (VANguard)
3. Confirm your organisation and select continue. This is only required when first accessed, from an incognito browser or new a device.  

Single or multi-ABN access

Most organisations only require a single ABN access; however, VANguard provides organisations the ability to establish multiple ABN authentication. Agencies may seek to establish 'multi-ABN' to ensure user access is from the specific entity they represent and not the parent entity.

There are instances where there are multiple organisations operating from a shared services arrangement. For example, the Australian Public Service Commission relies on ICT services from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, however, are an independent entity. 

To establish multi-ABN access, your ICT services area should contact the Department of Industry, Science and Resources and request a multi-ABN Authorisation form and the FAS IdP Onboarding guide. 

Agencies registering their ABNs with VANguard may risk losing PDMS access if not correctly listing their ABN/PDMS tenant. To maintain PDMS access, agencies should  liaise with the Parliamentary Workflow Solutions team at pwsagencysupport@finance.gov.au and VANguard at VANguard.Customer@industry.gov.au
